a perfectly packed day in florence
Start with an espresso at Ditta Artiginale. Head to the Bargello, one of the best and least trodden museums in Florence. For lunch, stop by ‘Ino, and order any panino that has stracciatella, a glass of wine, and biscotti. Cross the bridge to the Oltarno for the Bardini Gardens and sit among the springtime wisteria. If you’re not gardened out, the Boboli behind the Palazzo Pitti are ideal for a long walk. Annex some space in your stomach for gelato at Gelateria Della Passera—nocciola is what you want. Do some shopping nearby at the paper store Il Torchio, Bjork for clothes, Todo Modo for books. If your stamina allows, walk up the hill passed the rose garden to Piazzale Michelangelo for an excellent view. Once up there, check out the only Medieval church in the city San Miniato al Monte, and if you’re lucky, you’ll hear the Gregorian chants from the monks. Have a pre-dinner glass of wine at the tiny Il Santino and spill out onto the street with your drink as the Italians do. Dine at Zeb, ordering from the mother-son pair that run the place off of a daily changing chalkboard. Get the pear ravioli. Basta.
